On Tuesday, February 7th, Canon introduced three new lenses on the market. A new L-type and a couple of wide angle lenses. The EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM and EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM are using a rear focusing system, a ring-type Ultra Sonic Motor with optimized AF for fast, sharp photos and their very own high-speed CPU.
The refreshed version of the 24-70mm, expected to launch in April, weighs about 100 grams less than its predecessor at 850 grams and costs about $1K more.
The lens is equipped with an optical system that uses two Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) and one Super UD lens element to reduce chromatic aberration at wide angles. The Super Spectra coating helps reduce ghosting and spherical aberration.
The two prime lenses, are expected in June and they will run for $849.99 for the 24mm and $799.99 for the 28mm. These are the first of their respective focal lengths to feature Optical Image Stabilization technology, which offers corrections up to four shutter speed stops. With the Optical Image Stabilizer on, these lenses can capture sharp photos in low light even without a flash or tripod, according to Canon’s press release. The 24mm and 28mm lenses have a minimum focusing distance of 0.20m and 0.23m, respectively.
